Day 11 & 12

Somewhere in the preceding week I got mixed up on my days. I have actually been fasting longer and yesterday and today are February 11th and 12th respectively. Oh well, this means weigh in day is Saturday.

I’m not hungry at all most of time, but I try to make sure to drink enough water. I read in a number of places that the optimum amount of water per day is eight cups or half a gallon. I don’t usually drink quite that much but I am also drinking fruit juices. Today’s juice is honeydew, carrot, orange and apple. The combination doesn’t seem to make much difference; all the combinations of fruit juice that I have tried, taste good.
I did a fair amount of cleaning at the church yesterday and the exercise made me a bit hungry and thirsty. Fortunately, there was some grape juice left over from communion that I was able to use and those desires passed. I don’t think mucn about eating; it just doesn’t come into my mind very often.

Day 6

I discovered that drinking freshly extracted juices is an excellent change from the dead juices from the store that I have been drinking. Maybe dead is too strong a word, but pasteurized juices are low in natural enzymes and vitamins except those that are added during the processing like ascorbic acid. I intend to keep using the store bought juice but when I get the chance to juice the fresh stuff I will.

Today I juiced pears, oranges and carrots. What an excellent combination! Really heavy on the fiber but I think in my circumstances this is going to be okay. We will see what the consequences are at the end of the week weight check. Drinking smoothies, and high fiber fresh drinks were the recommended liquids when I was first learning to fast.

My first long fast was a supervised 17 day regimen. The permitted beverages were smoothies, fruit juices, V-8 juice, and tomato juice. No coffee, tea, alcohol, or animal based broths, were allowed. I weighed myself every day and lost about a pound a day for 17 days. I regained five pounds in colon waste upon the resumption of eating but otherwise lost twelve pounds. I had no problems on this fast other than the boredom of only drinking and not eating.

I managed to get down to 240 from 268 within a few months through this fast and by eating responsibly. Then my love died of kidney cancer and I just didn’t care anymore. Over the next year and a half I gained it all back and more going to 271. Her death crushed me; I didn’t handle it well at all.
